Conservation at the zoo

One of Micke Grove Zoo's (MGZ) primary goals is to conserve threatened wild animals and plants. Some of the conservation projects that the Zoo is involved in are listed below.

Species Survival Plan

Micke Grove Zoo (MGZ) participates in several conservation-breeding programs for threatened wildlife that are managed by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) Species Survival Plans (SSP).

Conserving Valley Oak Trees

Micke Grove Zoo has had a proactive, ongoing volunteer program since the 1960s. The Volunteer Program is organized and monitored by the Zoo Curator.

Water Efficient Landscaping

One of Micke Grove Zoo's (MGZ) goals is to conserve water through water-wise landscaping.

Monarch Waystation

MGZ is seeking to expand its conservation goals to include an in-situ conservation program that will to conserve threatened monarch butterflies and valley oak trees which are locally threatened.
